Environmental issues are one of the primary causes of disease, health issues and long term livelihood impact for India. There are many environmental issues in India related to air, water, noise; urban waste and pollution of the natural environment are all prime challenges for India. According to The World Bank during 1947 to 1995 through 2010, India has made fastest progress in addressing its environmental issues and improving its environmental quality. However, India has a long way to go to reach environmental quality similar to those enjoyed in developed economies. Pollution remains a major challenge and opportunity for India. Thus primary focuses of India in the matter of environment and forest is related to the implementation of policies and programs relating to conservation of the country’s natural resources including its lakes and rivers, its biodiversity, forests and wildlife, ensuring the welfare of animals, and the prevention and abatement of pollution. Thus the Government as taken initiative to become a partner with UNDP (since 1951) to help build nations and drive sustain the kind of growth that improve the overall quality of life. UNDP has worked in India since 1951 in virtually all areas of human development from democratic governance to poverty eradication to sustainable energy and environmental management.
Thus we set priority for conducting studies in environment and forest are as follows:
- Degradation and restoration of Biodiversity
- Climatic change
- Greenhouse emission
- Making Environment Green
- Population Growth and Environmental Quality
- Air/Water/Noise/Land/Soil Pollution study
- Groundwater
